Josue and Emmanuella Laguerre
Evangelical Baptist Church

Josue and Emmanuella Laguerre serve in Jacmel as part of Hosanna Ministry; he is the Administrative and Finance Director. The ministry supports several churches, but the main one is Evangelical Baptist Church where we will be serving. Pastor Dieupie Cherubin leads this body of believers, and we will work closely with them. This church was planted in 1935 and has approximately 700 members. The church emphasizes holistic transformation through discipleship of believers, teaching that Scripture should be integral to every part of one’s day. They have educational influence through their schools: kindergarten through Bible seminary training. They work through a hospital to provide healthcare services to the hurting. They have a radio ministry that reaches 1.5 million people in the southeast side of Haiti.

When we asked Josue about the church’s desire to host MMO teams in 2023, this is what he said: “We are praying for more people to get saved in Haiti and to be in fire for the Lord. Our country is facing huge problems, crisis after crisis. We are praying for security and political stability in Haiti. In the meantime, we are building a new temple to worship God. Please, help us pray about it.”

He went on to share: “Healthcare is not accessible to many Haitians. It is not only expensive but unavailable to more than 80% of the population. Needs for oculist and dentist are obvious.

Despite all Haitians needs, they are lovely and kind people. They have not lost their sense of mutual aid. Haitians are believers. They are resilient. Haitian families believe education is the key to come out of poverty.”

We hope that you will become involved with the great things God is doing in Haiti! Staying in touch with the Laguerres is a great place to start:

Our team will fly into Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and travel by boat to Haiti. We will work off of a retired naval vessel and stay at the marina while in Haiti. Fair warning – on this trip, the team will be at sea with a considerable amount of movement for extended periods of time, including overnight, and that if you are prone to motion sickness, this may be a challenging trip for you. There are also small bunks and access points; and if you are prone to claustrophobia, you may find this trip difficult.

The reward, though, will be great. You will have the chance to serve wonderful people in a needy but beautiful country. Haiti is characterized by miles of coastline and a scenic, mountainous interior. Sadly, much of the natural beauty is obstructed by cities with poor infrastructure and overcrowding, with ocean waters negatively affected when tons of debris from the earthquake were dumped into the sea. Still, many of Haiti's more remote coastlines remain home to beautiful beaches with clear blue waters, and numerous smaller towns and mountainous villages retain much of the land's natural charm.

You will get a glimpse of the challenges people face in Haiti—including poverty, injustice, and corruption—and you’ll meet Haitian people who are resilient and have found hope.

Our plan is to offer optical care to this community. Physical therapy professionals may fill out an INTEREST FORM to inquire about offering this service. Every patient who receives care will hear the gospel from a member of this local church.

What Hannah wants you to know about serving in Haiti

“Taking root downward, Bearing fruit upward" is the motto of Hosanna Baptist Church. This church shines a bright light in a world of darkness by taking root in God's word and faithfully teaching and preparing national pastors to do the same. Haiti has great need due to poverty, political corruption, earthquakes and voodoo practices. Expect to be pushed physically and spiritually as you co-labor with a strong network of churches to reach their community with the hope of a Savior. Expect to leave this island changed and bonded forever with the team members and church members you meet on this trip.”
