Joshua & Julie Mead
Living Hope Baptist Church

You will love meeting Joshua and Julie Mead and their three school-aged children Tristan, Claryssa, and Ryder. Joshua first told the Lord that he would serve Him as a missionary in Africa when he was just 13 years old. God directed him to Senegal as a college student and so much has happened since then! The Meads have been in Senegal since 2009, focusing on an area without a gospel-focused church presence. Living Hope Baptist Church has been the site of many life-changing moments for the people of St. Louis for the past five years. A national pastor now leads the work, and Joshua continues to serve as a pastor and evangelist. The Meads have been part of several church plants and are currently involved with village outreach, daily Bible studies, and media ministries. Through a podcast, The Missionary Perspective, they have been able to share about missions and what they have learned on their journeys.

The plan is for this team to serve near the site of a new church plant that is in the works. Living Hope Baptist is praying that our joint efforts will raise awareness in this community about this new church presence and desire to offer hope through medicine and the message of the gospel.

The Meads have worked hard to make information about their ministry available to you!

Inside information from the missionary:

  1. Healthcare in our community is not of the highest quality and even though it is not expensive, many people struggle to get by, let alone pay medical bills. Most people will visit the local hospital, which has a great staff but limited resources.

  2. The people of Senegal are known for being hospitable! We have the advantage of living near the Atlantic ocean and having access to some isolated beaches. The food is a top feature of this country!

Senegal is a West African country on the Atlantic coast. It was a French colony and its official language is French, though only about 12% of the population speak French and most people speak their own ethnic language (of which Wolof is the majority). Over 30% of the total population live in the lively city of Dakar, which is located on the Cabo Verde Peninsula. The country’s biggest exports are peanuts and fish, and Senegal is known for its delicious French-North African cuisine focusing on rice and fish. In spite of all this, nearly half the population is living in poverty due to crop failures from extreme weather combined with a recent ban on street beggars.

Senegal maintains freedom of religion and political openness to Christian missionaries. Most of the population is Muslim, with evangelicals being about 0.10% of the population, giving a wonderful opportunity to serve with the small but committed church in Dakar.

Our plan is to offer medical, optical, and dental care to this community. If you are a physical therapy professional interested in potentially serving on this team, please fill out an INTEREST FORM to inquire about offering this service. Every patient who receives care will hear the gospel from a member of this local church.
