Alicia Torres

Director of Patient Education

Hi, my name is Alicia Torres and I was raised in the industrial, Mexican border town of Reynosa. I grew up in a Catholic household, but it was through Christian education that my family first encountered the gospel of Christ. Through different opportunities in my formative years, God started to develop in me a heart for missions and for helping people. I am excited to use nursing as a tool to show others the love that has been shown to me.

Fun Facts About Me

My favorite trip location is Peru. The warmth of the people and the delicious food keeps me coming back time and time again.

The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is to care. “People won’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

If I could invent a holiday, it would definitely involve cheese.

A piece of advice I would give a volunteer team member who wants to join one of our trips would be to work in the pharmacy at least once!

Cats or dogs: never cats (unless it’s the musical), sometimes dogs.

My favorite word in the English language is literature.

If I could snap my fingers and become an expert in something, it would be playing the cello and the piano.

What’s the most inspiring part of your job? Watching patients make a full recovery and seeing their determination to change their lifestyle.

The most important thing I learned before high school was that your siblings will always be your best friends, no matter where life takes you.

If I were a superhero, my superpower would be teleportation.
